Georgalos Ventures into Ice Cream Market to Compete with Arcor and Nestlé

In an ambitious move, Argentine company Georgalos, known for iconic brands like Mantecol, Toddy, and Palitos de la Selva, has announced its entry into the ice cream segment. With an investment of approximately $1.5 million, the company aims to compete with industry giants Arcor and Nestlé. This step is a strategic diversification effort to stimulate year-round sales, reducing the seasonal dependency of its traditionally winter-centric products like chocolates.

Heading this innovation is Gustavo Giménez, the firm's Marketing Director, who noted, "We have long wanted to enter the ice cream market. However, we first worked on strengthening our brands, such as Toddy and Mantecol, to ensure a solid foundation. Now we feel it's the right moment to test this strength." The development process, spanning five years, will culminate in the production of ice cream through partnerships with specialized third-party manufacturers, while product design and essence remain internally developed by Georgalos.

Founded in 1939 by Miguel Georgalos, the company successfully transformed Mantecol into a cult brand. After selling it to Cadbury Stani in 2001 and reacquiring it two decades later, Georgalos continues to expand its iconic portfolio, now venturing into the dynamic realm of ice cream. This latest move embodies a new chapter, reaffirming its innovative spirit in the competitive confectionery market.
