On April 28, the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission made amendments to the Methodology for Assessing the Breeding Value of Dairy Cattle. This was reported by the EEC press service.
EEC Updates Methodology for Assessing Dairy Cattle Breeding Value

The updated methodology includes an updated list of mandatory traits for dairy cattle selection. Specifically, the list of 18 exterior traits was supplemented with six new indicators. The procedure for their measurement has also been established.

The EEC notes that the changes detail the process of assessing the breeding value of animals, taking into account the recommendations of the International Committee for Animal Recording and the World Holstein-Friesian Federation. The updated methodology is focused not only on applying international approaches but also on developing its own breeding work within the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union.

According to Goar Barsegyan, Minister for Industry and Agro-Industrial Complex of the EEC, the adopted changes will improve the objectivity of assessing breeding animals and the accuracy of forecasting their breeding value.

"The changes enhance the objectivity of assessing breeding animals and the accuracy of forecasting their breeding value. The addition will allow member states to determine the priority of their inclusion in national breeding programs based on national needs and characteristics. The implementation of the changes will contribute to the growth of genetic potential, the increase in the production of competitive breeding products, and the improvement of the organization and conduct of breeding work in the Union countries," said Goar Barsegyan.
