The company is utilizing a variety of mechanisms to support this transition, including financial aid, profitability analysis, technical assistance, and a transparent pricing system for producers that takes into account production costs and profit margins.
One of the key initiatives is the expansion of the Milk Academy, a program designed to train producers and disseminate technical knowledge throughout Danone's global supply network. This initiative includes the exchange of experiences among producers and targeted actions for small farmers.
Technological integration is another critical component of Danone's strategy to enhance operational efficiency. The company has implemented projects aimed at reducing energy consumption, optimizing water use, and automating irrigation and waste management processes. For instance, Danone has reported the use of refrigeration systems that can cut energy usage by up to 50%, smart sprinklers for water conservation, and autonomous technologies for irrigation and manure management to decrease fertilizer use and methane emissions.
Danone notes that its partner producers have experienced improvements in soil health, water conservation, and milk quality.
