Dairy Industry in Ecuador: Numbers Revealing Challenges and Opportunities
As climate conditions shifted in 2024 affecting dairy production and consumption, Ecuador's dairy industry reported a slight drop in milk reception, reaching 494.95 million liters, a 1.22% decrease from the previous year.

Price indices for dairy essentials have seen varied changes; from January to February 2025, the consumer price index for pasteurized milk rose 1.16%, UHT milk 0.23%, and yogurt 5.65%, while cheese prices decreased by 2.56%.

The current value of the dairy basket stands at $39.83, slightly lower than the previous year’s $40.51. The sector continues to grapple with informality, seen as nearly half of the dairy processings remain informal.

Regulations and collaborations with agencies like Arcsa aim to address these challenges, alongside encouraging consumer vigilance on product packaging and certifications.

Ongoing efforts by the Dairy Industry Center of Ecuador focus on data dissemination and sector integration, while current producer reference prices hover between $0.5027 and $0.5860 depending on quality, with observed price stability since January 2023.
