China Opens Doors to Pakistani Dairy Products: A Milestone in Economic Collaboration
As reported by China Economic Net (CEN) on Tuesday, this access for Pakistani dairy and meat products to the Chinese market signifies a significant step toward fostering economic development and generating job opportunities in Pakistan.
The collaboration between China and Pakistan in the dairy industry has a longstanding history, with a particular emphasis on high milk-yielding cow production. In 2022, the Royal Group of China established a laboratory in Lahore dedicated to the development of buffalo embryos from elite animals.
Beyond the Buffalo Embryos Laboratory Project, the Royal Group envisions deep processing of buffalo milk, including the production of milk powder, cheese, fresh milk, and more. This strategic move not only aims to increase the added value of milk products in Pakistan but also anticipates the creation of thousands of jobs for the local population.
The GACC's announcement specifies the categories of milk products allowed for export to China, encompassing items made from cow's or camel's milk. These include milk powder, whey powder, whey protein powder, colostrum powder, sterilized milk, fermented milk, cheese, processed cheese, thin cream, butter, anhydrous cream, among others.
Furthermore, the joint press statement issued by Pakistan and China on October 20 highlighted the signing of protocols for the export of heated beef and dried chilli from Pakistan to China. The discussions also covered the approval of quarantine access for Pakistani fresh cherries to the Chinese market, underscoring the expanding scope of economic cooperation between the two nations.
