Carbery Group has confirmed a price increase for milk supplied during the month of July, raising its base milk price by 1c/L. This adjustment reflects the company's ongoing efforts to support its dairy farmers amid fluctuating market conditions.

If this price increase is implemented across the four West Cork co-ops—Bandon, Barryroe, Drinagh, and Lisavaird—it will result in an average milk price of 44.83c/L, inclusive of VAT, a 0.5c/L somatic cell count (SCC) bonus, and Carbery’s FutureProof sustainability bonus. It’s important to note that the 1c/L increase, as well as the bonuses, are calculated before VAT is applied.

This new average price for July compares favorably to the June price of 43.8c/L, which also included VAT and similar bonuses. The modest increase reflects improvements in market conditions, particularly in the dairy sector.

A spokesperson for Carbery Group commented on the price adjustment, noting the encouraging performance of butter in global dairy markets. However, the spokesperson also pointed out that Carbery’s portfolio is more focused on cheese, where price improvements tend to occur more gradually compared to butter. "Prices are improving, but more slowly than butter, as is typically the case with cheese," the spokesperson added.

With this announcement, all of the major processors have now confirmed their milk prices for July, giving dairy farmers in the region a clearer outlook as they plan for the remainder of the year. The increase, though modest, is a positive signal for the industry, particularly in a challenging economic environment where input costs continue to rise.
