The Government of India, in collaboration with the Maharashtra State Government, is enhancing dairying and animal husbandry in the Marathwada region.
The Government of India, along with the Maharashtra State Government, has initiated significant measures to boost dairy and livestock development in the Marathwada region.

Under the guidance of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, multiple schemes like the National Programme for Dairy Development (NPDD) and Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM) are being implemented to enhance milk production and infrastructure, thereby increasing farmer incomes.

Projects such as the Vidarbha and Marathwada Dairy Development Project (VMDDP) have vastly improved milk collection capabilities since its launch in 2016, now covering over 3,400 villages and benefiting 35,000 farmers.

The initiative has aimed to stabilize the dairy infrastructure in Maharashtra, establishing 273 Artificial Insemination centers and launching silage manufacturing projects under the National Livestock Mission.

Efforts are underway to expand milk procurement networks, with enterprises like Mother Dairy Fruit & Vegetable Pvt. Ltd. contributing to the infrastructure. These endeavors reflect the government’s dedication to fostering a robust dairy ecosystem in Marathwada, ensuring economic gains for local farmers and sustained productivity in the sector.
