The Gotene site, already one of Arla's largest, employs around 600 people and operates continuously to produce butter, spreads, milk powder, and cheese. With the new facility, Gotene is expected to process around one billion kilograms of milk annually, effectively doubling its current volume. This expansion is anticipated to generate new full-time positions at the dairy and indirectly support additional jobs among local farmers and suppliers.

Scheduled to become operational by 2030, the new facility will take over household cheese production currently handled by Arla's Nr. Vium dairy in Denmark. The investment aligns with the Swedish government's food strategy, aiming to boost the nation's self-sufficiency rate in cheese production from approximately 37% to 47%.

Peder Tuborgh, CEO of Arla Foods, highlighted the importance of this investment in meeting the growing global demand for nutritious protein and supporting healthy diets. He stated, "We are investing at scale to build modern, efficient capacity that serves consumers across our markets, strengthens food security and advances innovation."

This initiative represents the largest single investment in Swedish food production to date and is expected to bolster national food preparedness while supporting the confidence of Swedish farmers.
