Alfa Laval Unveils Innovative Free Rotating Retractor for Hygienic Processing Lines
Source: The DairyNews
Alfa Laval continues to push the boundaries of innovation in hygienic processing lines, such as those in milk or infant powder plants, with the introduction of the Free Rotating Retractor. Babak Shojaei, Manager of Product Management for Tank Cleaning at Alfa Laval, emphasizes the company's commitment to achieving 100% cleaning coverage and meeting customer needs through continuous innovation.

The Free Rotating Retractor ensures complete cleaning assurance by efficiently preparing hygienic vessels for production. This retractable Cleaning-in-Place (CIP) device remains sealed off fr om the product area during production, flush with the vessel wall. The spray head extends, releasing cleaning media in a 310°-up spray pattern across the vessel surface. After the cleaning cycle concludes, the spray head retracts, leaving the vessel ready for production.
This innovative solution enhances process uptime and product safety by effectively removing residues from the interior surfaces of challenging-to-clean vessels. It helps lim it cross-contamination, reduces downtime, and boosts productivity. The Free Rotating Retractor adheres to FDA, EU, and China regulations, ensuring compliance with good manufacturing and hygiene practices in various processing facilities, including dairy, food, beverage, home and personal care.
For high-purity pharmaceutical and biotechnology processing lines, Alfa Laval offers the Free Rotating Retractor UltraPure, accompanied by a 3.1 documentation package for metal parts upon request.
In addition to its cleaning efficacy, the Free Rotating Retractor brings substantial resource savings, with up to 35% reductions in water, chemicals, and time for each CIP cycle compared to traditional static spray ball technology. This enhanced resource efficiency contributes to sustainability in manufacturing operations.
Alfa Laval emphasizes the low total cost of ownership for the Free Rotating Retractor, thanks to its easy installation, operation, and maintenance. For fully automated operation, multiple cleaning devices can be paired with Alfa Laval ThinkTop sensing and control units within an existing CIP system. The result is a cost-effective and streamlined solution that aligns with Alfa Laval's commitment to advancing hygiene and efficiency in processing industries.
