Ahold Delhaize USA has teamed up with General Mills to reduce greenhouse gas emissions within their shared supply chain by supporting regenerative agriculture practices. The two companies will co-invest in "priority supply sheds" – regions where essential ingredients like wheat and oats are sourced – to assist farmers in adopting sustainable farming techniques such as cover cropping and nutrient management.

Farmers in Kansas, US, and Saskatchewan, Canada, will receive financial and technical support through the initiative, which aims to promote regenerative agriculture on over 70,000 acres by 2025. Ecosystem Services Market Consortium (ESMC) will manage the program, ensuring impact measurements are accurate through a combination of field sampling and modeling. An independent third party will verify greenhouse gas reductions and soil carbon sequestration, ensuring transparency.

This initiative expands upon General Mills' existing regenerative agriculture partnership with ESMC, which started in 2020. The collaboration highlights the commitment of both companies to create a healthier, more resilient food system while tackling climate challenges.

Marc Stolzman, chief sustainability officer at Ahold Delhaize USA, emphasized the importance of strategic collaboration in driving climate action, while Mary Jane Melendez, chief sustainability officer at General Mills, stressed the farmer-centered approach and its focus on producing positive environmental, social, and economic outcomes.
