Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF)
The Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF), renowned for its 'Nandini' brand, stands as a pivotal entity in India's dairy sector. Headquartered in Bangalore, Karnataka, KMF distinguishes itself as the second largest dairy cooperative in the country.
Location and Operations
Based in Bangalore, KMF has cultivated an expansive network of milk unions across Karnataka. This network underpins a robust system for milk collection and distribution, effectively serving both domestic and international markets with its substantial processing capabilities.
Financial Indicators
As reflected in the Karnataka Milk Federation Annual Report for 2022-2023, KMF's revenues surpassed INR 17,000 crores (approximately US$ 2.3 billion). This financial milestone underscores its formidable presence and influence within the Indian dairy industry.
Significant Company Events
KMF recently partnered with Chai Point, a leading tea café chain, to serve at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj. This collaboration aligns with KMF's strategy to broaden its market outreach and engage with the beverage sector during significant events. KMF also achieved a new state record by collecting 1.06 crore litres of milk in a single day.
Company Plans
Looking ahead, KMF plans to diversify its product offerings, focusing on value-added dairy products. The strategic partnership with Chai Point exemplifies its market expansion efforts. Committed to sustainable dairy practices, KMF is advancing initiatives like biodegradable corn-based milk packet covers, spearheaded by its affiliate, Bamul. Despite challenges with unsold inventories of 2,100 tons of milk powder and 800 tons of butter, KMF remains dedicated to maintaining market stability. It has launched 18 new varieties of cakes and milk-based bakery products under the Nandini brand on World Milk Day, further broadening its product portfolio. Additionally, KMF announced the international expansion of its Nandini Ghee product line, aiming to strengthen its international presence by leveraging quality, brand trust, and diaspora networks.
KMF has enforced strict brand exclusivity at its Nandini Booths, prohibiting the sale of competitors' dairy products. This strategy ensures that Nandini Booths exclusively distribute their own range of dairy products, including milk, curd, ghee, and other specialties, to prevent brand dilution by eliminating unauthorized co-selling practices.
