Ukrainian Milk Processors Call for Government Action Amid Rising Raw Milk Prices

The Union of Dairy Enterprises of Ukraine has urged the government to intervene as the price of raw milk surged by 30% in October 2024 compared to the same period last year. This price hike, they argue, has significantly reduced the competitiveness of Ukrainian dairy products both domestically and internationally.
“Sharp price increases over such a short period indicate a clear imbalance in Ukraine’s raw milk market,” noted Union analysts. “These rising costs are not only undermining the competitiveness of Ukrainian dairy products but are also straining the operational efficiency of dairy processing plants. Furthermore, the price increase is impacting domestic consumers, who are being forced to reduce their dairy consumption.”
The Union stressed that this is the second consecutive year of price volatility in the raw milk market, underscoring the need for immediate government action. They advocate for policies to stimulate the development of industrial dairy farming, which would boost the supply of raw milk for processing. By increasing raw milk availability, the Union believes that Ukraine can mitigate future price fluctuations and enhance the stability and competitiveness of its dairy sector.
