Five percent of Kazakhstani consumer spending is made up of dairy products - Serik Zhumangarin

“In fact, such studies have been carried out, and our statistics confirm this, but I would like to make one very important clarification. Not half of wages, but half of consumer spending. These are completely different things, since according to statistics, Kazakhstanis spend less of their nominal wages on food and non-alcoholic drinks - this is about 23%. But of consumer spending, which includes food and non-food goods and services, about 49% is actually spent. Moreover, this trend has been going on for many years. In 2013, we spent 44.6%. Since 2016, almost 48%. And since then it has not decreased,” he emphasized.
According to Serik Zhumangarin, these statistics indicate that the market is not sufficiently saturated with goods.
“There is not enough competition for goods on the market, and the clear solution here is to increase the mass of goods on the market,” Serik Zhumangarin clarified.
He also expressed his disagreement with the USDA rankings, which compare different countries. According to these statistics, people in the USA spend less than in Kazakhstan.
“But here, eating out is also not taken into account, because in Kazakhstan, after all, people mostly eat at home, and the consumption structure is slightly different. Naturally, in Uzbekistan the consumption structure is one, in Kazakhstan it is different. But the fact remains a fact. Kazakhstanis spend 49% of consumer spending on food. And I would like to say that of these, 17% is meat, 8% is bread and cereals, 5% is dairy products, 4% is vegetables, 4% is fruits, 4% is sugar. These six products are the most important where we spend our money. And we are now closely working on these six products ,” the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
Serik Zhumangarin informed that the government is preparing a large project for the development of processing in the industries for the development of beef cattle breeding, milk production, dairy farms , deep processing of meat, grain, vegetable storage, and a Roadmap for the development of the sugar industry is being developed.
“These six products determine the current high costs of the population. Based on them, we have a clear understanding of what we will do, despite all the difficulties that exist now, and in general the general state of agriculture in general, we have an understanding of how to move. I think we will show and announce this in the near future,” he said.
