Nestlé México Spurs Circular Economy with 94% Recyclable Plastics

In a significant step towards sustainability, Nestlé México announced that 93.9% of its plastic packaging is now recyclable, edging closer to its global goal of 95% by the end of 2025. This transition underscores the company's commitment to a circular economy for plastics, focusing on reducing virgin material use through reuse and recycling.
Over the past five years, Nestlé has voluntarily collected more than 116,000 tons of plastic waste, including those without formal recycling chains. These efforts, under its waste neutralization strategy, ensure plastics are repurposed through industrial co-processing, rather than ending up in landfills or water bodies.
To further bolster this strategy, Nestlé has redesigned its packaging, reduced plastic use, and invested in recycling infrastructure, collaborating with organizations like ECOCE and ANIPAC. The company also leads awareness campaigns to educate consumers on proper waste separation.
Brands like Nescafé, Nespresso, and Purina have implemented specific capsule and packaging collection programs, facilitating the return of these materials to the industrial cycle. Nestlé also fosters multi-sector partnerships with governments and companies to promote sustainability in urban and rural areas.
Through these initiatives, Nestlé México positions itself as a leader in corporate sustainability, offering a replicable model for responsible plastic management. The company calls on industry, authorities, and citizens to join forces for successful environmental outcomes.
