The authorities of the Hautes-Alpes mountain region in southeastern France have informed that since June 28 farms have suffered from an infection that can spread to humans.
French farmers are in a panic from the anthrax epidemic
French veterinarians tried to contain the outbreak of anthrax, as the Spanish laboratory producing vaccines is on vacation all August. According to official Agnes Chavanon, the authorities are negotiating with their European partners to discuss the availability and purchase of vaccines that are in stock in other countries.

The officer of the Upper Alps, Serge Cavalli, said that the animals in the affected farms of the region had been vaccinated, they would be quarantined for at least 21 days, and the farms would be disinfected.

The first case was recorded in the village of Montgardin on June 28, resulting in the death of 6 cows. Since then, the infection has affected 12 other rural towns.

Anthrax is transmitted by spores that can remain inactive in the soil for decades, including in the bodies of dead animals. The last serious outbreak of ulcers in France was recorded in 2008, when anthrax spread to 23 farms.
