China's Probes into EU Pork, Dairy Imports Advance Amid Trade Tensions

China's Ministry of Commerce announced on Thursday that anti-dumping and anti-subsidy investigations are currently underway concerning pork and dairy products imported from the European Union (EU). This development aligns with China's ongoing efforts to scrutinize foreign imports affecting domestic industries.

According to Ministry spokesperson He Yadong, China is dedicated to conducting these investigations in an open and transparent manner, adhering to its laws and the regulations of the World Trade Organization. All parties involved are ensured full protection of their rights during this process, according to the spokesperson.

The investigations, which began in August of last year, aim to assess the impact of these imports on China's domestic industries, examining the period from January 1, 2020, to March 31, 2024. The result of these probes may significantly shift economic relationships and trade operations between China and the EU.

As tensions mount over global trade dynamics, these investigations could lead to increased scrutiny and possible tariffs on imports, affecting the EU’s agro-food sector, particularly regarding its dairy and pork industries. The outcome of these cases could also influence broader trade discussions between China and the EU.
