Saginbaev highlighted that Kazakhstan is dependent on milk imports. The share of domestic consumption has grown since 2020, reaching about 28-29% in 2023, an increase of 11%. Although domestic milk production has also risen by 8.3%, due to increased dairy productivity at agricultural enterprises, milk imports from Russia have surged by 39% since last year.
"We want to drink our own high-quality milk and move away from dependency on imports. Starting in 2023, the Republican Ministry of Agriculture and the government have developed a program for subsidized loans to establish dairy farms. In the last and this year, $225 million has been allocated for this purpose, with 65 farms identified for financing. 26 farms have already been put into operation," emphasized Azamat Saginbaev.
This year, additional funds are being allocated for the development of irrigated agriculture because the state understands that without a feed base, it is impossible to achieve sustainable development of livestock breeding.
According to the data presented, Kazakhstan has about 180 processing plants with a capacity of 2.7 million tons.
