The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is taking significant steps in the field of dairy waste management, focusing on the environmental challenges posed by urban dairy operations. Demonstrating its commitment to sustainable waste management solutions, MCD has allocated approximately ₹34 crore towards the development of biogas plants and wastewater treatment facilities. These financial investments are pivotal in implementing infrastructure that can effectively manage and process dairy waste.

Strategic Plans and Implementation

The Corporation's strategic plan includes the installation of advanced biogas plants designed not only to manage dairy waste efficiently but also to contribute to energy generation. The development of state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facilities aims to ensure that dairy effluents are processed in an environmentally friendly manner, significantly reducing the environmental footprint of dairy operations.

Collaborative Efforts

In a collaborative effort with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), MCD is working on a project to convert dairy waste and prevent untreated cattle waste from contaminating the Yamuna River. This collaboration underscores the importance of joint efforts in addressing urban environmental challenges.

Project Oversight and Management

Recently, MCD commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar inspected the ongoing project, emphasizing the need for timely completion. Khirwar instructed the executing agency to expedite the remaining civil, mechanical, and electrical tasks by leveraging additional manpower and resources, ensuring that the project meets its environmental objectives efficiently.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the National Dairy Development Board have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish biogas plants. Additionally, the NGT has set a six-week deadline for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to submit an updated action-taken report.
