Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA)

Location and Operations

The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) operates extensively across various districts in India, with significant efforts concentrated in Mathura and Aligarh. These regions are central to FSDA's mission to uphold food safety and regulatory compliance within the dairy sector.

Important Events

Between October 8 and 17, FSDA carried out an intensive operation to combat adulteration practices in dairies across Mathura and Aligarh. This crackdown was spearheaded by Commissioner Rekha S Chauhan, who emphasized the critical food safety lapses discovered during the inspections. The initiative aimed at protecting public health by addressing the prevalent issue of adulteration in dairy products.

In addition to its focus on dairies, FSDA also conducted inspections at high-end restaurants in UB City and Brigade Road. These inspections, part of a broader check under India's Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, resulted in the seizure or disposal of 132kg of food.

The FSDA was responsible for the raid in Mathura, where 500 kg of contaminated paneer was destroyed, and other materials were confiscated to ensure food safety.

Future Plans

Looking forward, FSDA intends to maintain its vigilant monitoring and enforcement actions to curb food adulteration. The organization plans to strengthen regulatory measures and enhance awareness among dairy producers about the importance of complying with safety standards. This will involve continued inspections and collaboration with local authorities to ensure the integrity of dairy products.

The FSDA in Uttar Pradesh has issued directives under India's Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, mandating the closure of manufacturing facilities and the destruction of inventories when inspections or tests confirm the presence of hazardous chemicals or non-dairy fats.
