Barra Preta Farm

Barra Preta Farm is situated in Pitanga, a municipality in the state of ParanĂ¡, Brazil. The farm has made notable strides in increasing its milk production efficiency since 2019, thanks in part to the support from SIA Brasil.

Significant Improvements in Milk Yield

Since initiating improvements in 2019, Barra Preta Farm has managed to increase its average milk yield per cow from an initial range of 26-28 liters to an impressive 42 liters, with occasional peaks reaching up to 45 liters per cow. This remarkable increase in productivity is primarily attributed to the optimization of cow diets, specifically addressing protein excess in the feed.

Expansion of the Lactating Herd

As part of its efforts to boost productivity, Barra Preta Farm also expanded its lactating herd from 60 cows to over 90 cows. This strategic expansion was necessary to capitalize on the increased milk yield per cow and to sustain the farm's growth trajectory.

Infrastructure Enhancements

The growth in herd size and milk production underscored the need for enhanced feeding infrastructure. In response, Barra Preta Farm adopted a compost barn model, which has proved to be beneficial in supporting the increased herd size and improved feeding practices.
