Asha Mahila Milk Producer Organisation
The Asha Mahila Milk Producer Organisation has emerged as a significant player in the dairy industry since its inception in 2016. Starting with just 11 members, this organization has expanded into a robust cooperative of 50,000 members, collecting over 1.5 lakh litres of milk daily.
Key Initiatives and Collaborations
In collaboration with WWF India, the organization has made strides in improving milk quality and minimizing the financial losses faced by women dairy farmers. One of the notable advancements has been the integration of solar units, which has effectively reduced operational costs and emissions. This shift has addressed the previous challenges of unreliable electricity and dependence on diesel, making the operations more sustainable.
Empowerment and Leadership
Beyond the technical and operational improvements, the Asha Mahila Milk Producer Organisation has played a pivotal role in empowering women. It has facilitated financial independence and provided leadership opportunities to its members. The implementation of direct payments, issuance of ownership certificates, and establishment of women-led committees have significantly increased female participation in the cooperative's management. These initiatives have also enabled women to take on roles of international representation, further elevating their status and influence within the industry.
