Biography
Verghese Kurien was pivotal in the evolution of a cooperative in Anand, Gujarat, which laid the foundation for the iconic Amul brand. His collaboration with Tribhuvandas Patel and dairy technologist H.M. Dalaya was instrumental in this endeavor.
Significant Events
Kurien\'s work received national recognition following a visit by Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri to Anand in 1964, which underscored the importance of the dairy movement. Under his leadership, the cooperative model gained national backing, setting a precedent for similar initiatives across the country.
After decades of dedicated service, Kurien stepped down from his position as the chairman of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in 1998. He later resigned from the chairmanship of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation in 2006. Verghese Kurien passed away in 2012, leaving behind a lasting legacy in India\'s dairy sector.
