Shikaoi Hydrogen Farm
The Shikaoi Hydrogen Farm is a pioneering venture in the field of renewable energy, located in Shikaoi. This facility is dedicated to the production of hydrogen, a clean fuel alternative, using an innovative process that involves the collection and processing of cow manure and urine.
Production Process
At the Shikaoi Hydrogen Farm, cow manure and urine are collected and subjected to anaerobic digestion. In this process, bacteria decompose the organic matter present in the manure and urine, resulting in the production of biogas, which mainly consists of methane. The biogas is then purified and converted into hydrogen through a method known as steam reforming, conducted at high temperatures.
Output and Impact
The facility is capable of producing approximately 70 cubic meters of hydrogen daily. This output is sufficient to fuel around 28 light vehicles, demonstrating the farm's potential to contribute significantly to sustainable energy solutions.
