Rashtriya Gokul Mission
The Rashtriya Gokul Mission is a significant initiative designed to transform dairy farming in the region of Jharkhand. This mission plays a crucial role in enhancing the economic status of smallholder farmers, who form the backbone of the dairy industry in this area.
Innovative Breeding Techniques
A major component of the Rashtriya Gokul Mission is the application of sex-sorted semen technology. This advanced breeding technique ensures that 90% of the calves born are female, which is strategically planned to increase milk production. Female calves, once matured, will become milk-producing cows, thus significantly boosting the region's dairy output.
Achievements in Genetic Improvement
The mission has made notable strides in genetic improvement, having completed over 17.27 crore artificial inseminations in the past five years. This effort has positively impacted 5.98 crore farmers, contributing to the growth of the dairy sector.
Support in Jammu and Kashmir
The Rashtriya Gokul Mission is also part of a central government scheme supporting milk production growth in Jammu and Kashmir. In the fiscal year 2024–25, Jammu and Kashmir received ₹61.20 crore under the mission, highlighting the government's commitment to enhancing dairy productivity in the region.
