Headquarters: Krishi Bhavan, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Road, New Delhi 110001, India.
Facilities and Operations
ICAR operates a vast network of institutions and regional centers across India, including research institutes, national research centers, project directorates, and a range of agricultural universities. These facilities focus on various aspects of agricultural research and development, including crop sciences, horticulture, animal sciences, fisheries, natural resource management, agricultural engineering, and social sciences.
Financial Indicators
As a government entity, ICAR's funding comes from government budget allocations. For the fiscal year 2022-23, the total allocation for the ICAR was approximately INR 9,241 crores (about USD 1.2 billion). This funding is distributed across its various programs, research initiatives, and operational costs.
Important Events
One of the significant recent collaborations is between ICAR and Biovet to develop Biolumpivaxin, a vaccine designed to protect cattle against Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD). This vaccine is a critical innovation aimed at improving cattle health and supporting the dairy industry by mitigating the effects of this viral disease, which causes substantial economic losses in the dairy sector.
Future Plans
ICAR aims to continue enhancing its research capabilities and technological advancements within the agricultural sector. Future plans include expanding partnerships with international research organizations, developing new varieties of crops, enhancing livestock breeds, and innovating in biotechnology to ensure food security and sustainability. The continued development and distribution of vaccines like Biolumpivaxin remain a priority to address ongoing challenges in animal husbandry.
