Commission for Consumer Protection: Monitoring Dairy Product Prices
The Commission for Consumer Protection (CCP) has been conducting thorough inspections to evaluate the retail prices and commercial practices concerning dairy products. This initiative began on October 2, with a focus on the significant markups noticed in major retail chains.
Price Markups and Inspections
The CCP identified that markups on some dairy products exceeded 140% between August and October. This prompted the commission to require retailers to provide detailed accounts of the economic factors leading to these price increases. Additionally, promotional goods within these chains were found to have markups reaching up to 40%.
Plans for Further Actions
Under the leadership of Maya Manolova, the CCP plans to hold meetings with businesses in sectors that receive the most consumer complaints. These sectors include fast-food outlets, restaurants, and other service providers, which have also seen reported price increases. Furthermore, the commission is considering an examination of medicine prices, potentially in collaboration with the Health Ministry and the Commission for Protection of Competition.
