Yorkshire Ice Cream Farm Redirects Footpath Due to Visitor Impact

Our Cow Molly, an ice cream farm located in Dungworth near Sheffield, has successfully arranged the relocation of a footpath to mitigate disturbances caused by its growing popularity. The farm, known for its diverse range of ice creams produced from its own dairy herd, has become a frequent destination for visitors, particularly since the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Sheffield City Council’s planning and highways committee approved the diversion of the footpath, which previously ran close to neighboring homes on Cliffe Hill. The owners of Our Cow Molly financed the path's relocation to address concerns from local residents, who reported visitors lingering near their properties.

According to a report presented to the committee, the footpath saw increased use during the pandemic, with visitors often pausing to consume ice cream near residential areas. In response, the farm owner provided an alternate permissive route, which proved popular, especially in the summer months. However, the alternative path's entrance was prone to becoming muddy due to cattle movement.

To resolve this, the new public path has been constructed using crushed stone and strategically moved away from the cattle entrance and exit. This solution was well-received, with no objections raised against the changes.

Councillor Richard Williams commended the initiative, noting that it effectively addressed the dual issues of resident disturbance and path usability.
