Despite the difficulties associated with restrictions on coronavirus, the Ministry of Agriculture is making every effort to ensure that dairy producers are ready to introduce mandatory labeling. This was stated by the deputy director of the Department of Food and Processing Industry of the department Vladimir Skvortsov.

Since December 1, 2021, labeling of dairy products with an expiration date of less than 40 days will become mandatory. In addition, there will be an obligation to record the disposal of products through cash registers. Manufacturers must be registered in the labeling system and describe their products in the catalog.

The previous two stages on the introduction of labeling of dairy products were not without problems, Skvortsov said. However, the Ministry of Agriculture managed to solve them almost in "manual mode" together with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, he said.

‘We had no problems with the availability of products on the shelves and, in principle, everything went smoothly,’ said the deputy director of the Department of the Ministry of Agriculture at a meeting to clarify the rules for labeling dairy products and natural packaged water by means of identification, which was held in the Federation Council.

At the moment, according to him, the situation is not easy due to restrictions on coronavirus and a shortage of electronic components that are supplied from Europe and Asia. These issues, according to him, are discussed at meetings of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

‘There is a delay in the supply of labeling equipment. We are trying to provide maximum assistance in this matter — a number of integrators (labeling systems. - Editor's note) are looking for alternative temporary ways to solve the problem,’ Skvortsov said.

The high demand for labeling equipment creates certain difficulties. However, the Ministry of Agriculture keeps the situation under control, ‘in order to prevent problems with the sale of socially significant products in all areas,’ the official assured.

The Ministry, according to him, is making every effort to ensure that manufacturers are ready to introduce mandatory labeling. He called on all enterprises and all regions also ‘not to conceal the situation in any way and not to think that the deadlines will somehow be postponed.’

‘No, we need to ensure the readiness of our manufacturers and make every effort to do this — we are open and ready for any interaction,’ concluded the representative of the ministry.
