UFV plans to make the world’s largest doce de leite in Viçosa

The Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) is preparing a record attempt involving a single container of doce de leite, a traditional Brazilian milk confection. The production is scheduled for August 29 at 10am at the university’s Quatro Pilastras site in Viçosa, Minas Gerais.

Organisers intend to combine 7,500 litres of milk supplied by dairy farmers from the surrounding region to make 3,000kg of the product. The proposed volume is above the current record attributed to Celaya, Mexico, where 2,886kg was produced in 2023. The Brazilian result will not qualify as a world record unless Guinness World Records accepts the evidence and confirms it.

The preparation will take place in a metal container measuring 2 metres by 2 metres. UFV said the dimensions are required to hold the planned quantity. The event is part of activities marking the university’s centenary.

The project brings together UFV and the Arthur Bernardes Foundation (Funarbe). It is being carried out through Laticínio Viçosa, a university-linked dairy facility associated with the established Doce de Leite Viçosa brand. The proposed batch is a large-scale version of that product.

RankBrasil representatives will attend the production and assess the attempt in person. After that assessment, the organisers will submit the collected records and supporting material to Guinness World Records. Guinness will conduct its own review before deciding whether to recognise the title.

If certification is granted, the product will be removed from the large container and placed in smaller pots. Visitors at Quatro Pilastras will receive portions between 10am and 3pm; the organisers will provide the pots and establish the serving sizes. The milk suppliers’ participation is intended to present the region’s raw material during an event that could receive international attention if the Guinness application succeeds.
