This year, the growth rate of cheese production in Russia may reach 10% - experts

By the end of 2020, the growth of cheese and cheese products production in the Russian Federation is expected at the level of 5-5.5%, and by the end of 2021, this figure may reach 10%, predict the experts of the Institute of Agricultural Market Conjuncture (ICAR).

According to their data, high investment activity in the cheese industry over the past 2 years has significantly changed the structure of this market. The share of domestic products in 2020 is estimated to have increased from 78% to 84%, and in the future, the share will continue to grow.

According to ICAR, in 2020, the production of cheese and cottage cheese increased to 1,056 million tons from 1,005 million tons in 2019. At the same time, imports of these products decreased to 211 thousand tons from 272 thousand tons, respectively.

According to experts, the continued increase in prices for raw milk keeps high incentives for further investment in production. According to ICAR, the average purchase price for milk of the first and highest grade in 2020 was 23.86 rubles and 26.21 rubles per 1 kg (including VAT), respectively. Compared to the average in 2019, this is higher by 4.8% and 4.7%, respectively.

According to Rosstat, the production of raw milk in agricultural organizations in January-November 2020 increased by 5.4% to 16.3 million tons, including 15.7 million tons of commercial milk. According to ICAR, by the end of the year, the production of commercial milk can reach 17.7-17.9 million tons. The ongoing modernization and intensification of milk production contribute to production growth - the results of 11 months 2020, productivity growth of dairy cattle was 6.2%, experts say.
