The strengthening of the ruble restrained the growth of milk price
According to the application Index DIA, the weighted average price of milk in Russia decreased by 0.11% to 26.68 rubles (about 0.29 euros)/kg, which is 3.5% higher than the price in late April 2020. Prices for raw milk increased in the Chuvash Republic and Moscow regions. The decline in prices for raw milk was observed in Samara, Ulyanovsk and Volgograd regions.

The import price index increased by 0.16% to 36.66 rubles (about 0.41 euros)/kg, compared to late April 2020 the index is higher by 8.5%. The key growth factor was the increase in price for butter and whole milk powder. At the auction of BUCE the price of whole milk powder increased by 1%, the price of butter increased by 1.6%. At the auction of Trigona Dairy Trade the price of whey powder increased, the prices for cheese, skimmed milk powder and butter remained at the level of the previous auction. The price of butter, taking into account the strengthening of the ruble compared to the previous auction, decreased by 0.21% to 363.6 rubles (about 4.02 euros)/kg, the price of cheddar decreased 317.5 rubles (about 3.51 euros)/kg, the price of skimmed milk powder decreased to 232.4 rubles (about 2.57 euros)/kg. The price of whey powder increased by 0.8% to 95.7 rubles (about 1.06 euros)/kg.
The 282nd auction of GDT (Global Dairy Trade) of April 20, 2021 ended with a slight decline. The price index for dairy products decreased by 0.1%, prices for butter and dehydrated milk fat decreased, prices for milk powder are stable.
The import price of a pair of skimmed milk powder + butter increased by 0.3% to 40.04 rubles (about 0.44 euros)/kg (1 kg in terms of milk). The import price of a pair of cheese + whey remained at the level of 34.49 rubles (about 0.38 euros)/kg. The price of whole milk powder increased by 0.95% to 29.86 rubles (about 0.33 euros)/kg.

Dairy Index DIA
Dairy Index DIA is calculated based on two key indicators, the weighted average price of milk in the Russian regions and the Index of import price. To calculate the weighted average price, the Center developed and launched a crowdsourcing application Index DIA, which allows accumulating current data on the prices of raw milk in the Russian regions from direct market participants, producers and processors of milk. The Index of import price is determined based on the prices of key exchange dairy products – skim milk powder, whole milk powder, butter, cheese and whey powder. The prices of imported dairy products are based on the prices of dairy products of the Belarusian universal commodity exchange (BUCE) and the prices at the sites of Trigona Dairy Trade and GlobalDairyTrade.
