A modern milk processing plant of the company Green Agro-Sakhalin has started operating in a test mode in the village of Troitskoye, Aniva district,. The new enterprise is part of the territory of advanced socio-economic development "Yuzhnaya", reported in the press service of the regional government to The DairyNews.

‘Sakhalin region lives in conditions of a complex transport scheme. The issue of food security is of particular importance for the region. We are interested in ensuring that as much food as possible is produced in the region and sold at an affordable price. To this end, we systematically support both small farms and large enterprises of the agro-industrial complex. As a result, the need for vegetables, potatoes, and chicken eggs is almost completely covered by local production. The indicator of self-sufficiency in meat has increased 1.2 times in three years. It is also important that we get fresh products from the island village. Moreover, this has a positive effect on the health of residents of the region,’ said Governor Valery Limarenko.

Milk production is also growing rapidly. In 2020, the self-sufficiency rate was 64.1 percent. A year earlier - 56.4 percent. The increase was mainly due to the implementation of a major investment project in the south of Sakhalin. A livestock complex "Green Agro-Sakhalin" was created in the village of Troitskoye, with the support of the regional government and the Sakhalin Region Development Corporation. Milking herd – 1628 cows. The local cows give a fifth of the raw milk of the entire island region. Gross daily production is 33-34 tons. In the future, the volumes will grow.

Today, the bulk of raw milk from Green Agro-Sakhalin is processed at enterprises in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Kholmsk and Poronaysk. Soon the situation will change. Recently, the farm has started its own dairy plant in a test mode. Today it produces pasteurized milk and kefir in a tetrapack package and sour cream in plastic cups.

‘The quality of our products is ensured by several factors. Firstly, we use the freshest possible raw materials. For example, the milk of the morning milking immediately gets through the pipes to the dairy plant, passes pasteurization, is poured into packaging and gets into stores the next morning. Secondly, the work of the plant is automated as much as possible. As a result, the technology is clearly observed. Thirdly, the contact of raw materials and products with the environment is minimized. From the moment of milking and before filling into commercial packaging, the product is exclusively in sterile containers and pipes. It does not come into contact with people and even with atmospheric air,’ said Head of the dairy plant Anna Arabskaya.

‘We will start producing yogurts with various fillers soon. In the cheese shop we will produce hard and semi-hard cheeses. We will start producing "Russian" and "Dutch" cheeses. In December, we will lay the first batch for maturation. The cheese can be tasted in January next year. When we work out the technology, we will expand the range, add up to 15 types of cheeses,’ said Vladimir Balukhta, Managing Director of Green Agro-Sakhalin.

With the launch of the dairy plant at full capacity, 145 new jobs will be created.
