Tatarstan Declares State of Emergency for Farmers Due to Frosts and Waterlogged Soil

Rustam Minnikhanov signed an order on October 1 to declare a state of emergency for farmers. The document established a regional level response due to the damage to agricultural crops.

The order is effective in 41 of the 43 municipal districts of Tatarstan. The order lists several hazardous natural phenomena: snow mold, frost, and waterlogged soil. These were cited as the conditions leading to crop damage and loss.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the republic, along with district heads, has been tasked to develop measures to mitigate the consequences of the emergency situation within five days. The order does not specify particular types of measures.

According to Tatgidromet, snow and a temperature drop to minus 2-3 degrees were expected in the republic on Friday and the upcoming weekend. This information was published following the emergency declaration.

The last time Tatarstan introduced such a special regime for farmers was in 2023. Agricultural producers whose lands are affected by emergencies are entitled to state compensation for losses.
