Rosselkhoznadzor held a meeting with animal breeding companies regarding Schmallenberg virus
A meeting devoted to import of ruminants in the context of Schmallenberg disease spread in Europe became a part of Rosselkhoznadzor’s consultations with Russian business representatives concerning economic interests of the market. 42 constituents of the Russian Federation were checked for Schmallenberg disease, 256 seropositive animals were detected among cattle brought from European countries. Not a single animal born in Russia had antibodies to Schmallenberg. Companies importing live animals from Europe are recommended to study the Rosselkhoznadzor’s Recommendations for Schmallenberg disease diagnostics, prevention and extirpation. Precise estimation of risks connected with Schmallenberg disease is impossible due to absence detailed studies and concealment of EU competent bodies, reports Rosselkhoznadzor.
