Raw milk deficit in Russia estimates at least 6 million tons
"Considering the decrease in milk production during the last year by 10% and the incease of dairy demand by 3-4%, the additional raw milk deficit estimates at least 1 million tons during the current year", - informed Andrey Danilenko, the Chairman of the Board, SOUZMOLOKO. "If you look wider on the deficit issue and set a goal to replace the existing adulteration of the high-quality dairy on the market, then an extra 4 million tons is necessary (10% of the market). If you set a goal regarding the Food Security Doctrine (90% self-sufficiency), then it is necessary to produce an extra 7-8 million tons of raw milk to replace imported supplies. The volume of the imports is around 8 million tons in milk equivalent” – explained Mr. Danilenko.
According to the DairyNews Chief editor Michael Mischenko, the deficit of the supplied milk in Russia is around 6 million tons. “At the moment the supplied milk deficit is around 6 million tons. According to different sources, this figure may vary from 5.5 to 8 million tons. The situation is getting worse as we see the dairy herd decrease at commercial farms” – said Mr. Mischenko.
