Provilac Raises $14m to Expand High-Protein Dairy Products
Pune-based Provilac raised $14m from Panthera Growth Partners in its first institutional funding round. The dairy company said it will use the money to increase production capacity, develop new products and enter additional markets.
Provilac’s main product is a high-protein milk made using ultrafiltration. The process concentrates proteins that occur naturally in milk rather than adding protein powders. Each 250ml serving contains 25g of protein, which the company says is about three times the amount in standard milk.
Distribution across five markets
The company currently supplies more than 50,000 households each day in Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Delhi NCR and Jaipur. Its distribution includes an application-based subscription service, through which customers can place recurring orders directly with the company.
For its next stage of expansion, Provilac has identified Bengaluru as a key market. It is preparing to work with FirstClub and Blinkit Gourmet to make its high-protein dairy products available there.
Product pipeline and testing
Provilac is also developing dairy products fortified with vitamins and micronutrients, as well as other fresh-dairy formats. The company’s product range is centred on nutrition and convenience alongside its existing fresh-dairy offering.
Quality controls include quarterly testing by independent third parties at laboratories accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories. The testing covers nutritional characteristics, antibiotic residues, adulteration, aflatoxin, microbial levels and other food-safety parameters.
The funding arrives as higher protein intake becomes a growing focus in India’s food and beverage industry. Provilac is positioning fresh dairy with elevated protein content as an everyday food category, rather than limiting protein-focused products to supplements, powders or specialist sports-nutrition offerings.
