Yulia Marcel, co-founder of the Association of Producers of Alternative Food Products (APAFP) and top manager of the Russian manufacturer of food and feed ingredients Partner-M, believes that plant-based alternatives to traditional dairy products are becoming more and more prominent players in the food market, writes The DairyNews.

The expert notes that traditional milk is still the leader on the market of dairy products in Russia. At the same time, in her opinion, the interest in the alternative category of products is increasing.

‘According to the study of the project "Eat Better", for example, in 36 of the 42 coffee chains in Russia, you can order coffee with alternative milk, and you can buy it in every federal retail chain and stores at home,’ said Julia Marcel.

In her opinion, plant-based alternatives will definitely compete with traditional dairy products, which will lose a large percentage of consumer demand. According to her, this trend is clearly confirmed by the more developed food markets in the United States and Europe.

Yulia Marcel believes that producers of plant-based alternatives should work to increase both the territorial and price availability of their products. In her opinion, producers of alternatives also need to pay attention to fortifying their products with nutritional value, for example, with calcium.

‘Thus, delicious, healthy and affordable alternatives to dairy products can seriously compete with cow milk — if the product is in no way inferior to traditional milk, while being ethical, eco-friendly and healthy, why not give preference to it,’ said the co-founder of APAFP.
