Over 112,000 Farms Spur Growth in Nicaragua's Dairy Production

Nicaragua's Dairy Industry Continues Upward Trend
The dairy production sector is a significant part of Nicaragua's economy, playing a crucial role in providing food, jobs, and income, thereby stimulating both local and national economies. Notably, in the period from January to December 2024, the dairy industry reported a national production volume of 380 million gallons of milk, reflecting a favorable growth of 1.6% compared to 2023.
Data released by the Ministry of Agriculture (MAG) highlights that the sector is supported by 112,000 farms, producing an average of 4.3 million liters of milk per day. An impressive 72% of this milk is sold to collection centers and cheese factories, while the remaining 28% is used on farms for dairy product manufacturing and local consumption.
Geographical Hotspots and Government Support
The primary regions for milk production include the North and South Caribbean coasts, Matagalpa, Chontales, Rio San Juan, and Boaco. The Government of National Reconciliation and Unity (GRUN) is committed to boosting the industry's growth through strategic policies and programs aimed at enhancing livestock production results.
