New livestock complexes are being launched in Yaroslavl region, and the level of self-sufficiency in milk is increasing

In 2020, farms of all categories in Yaroslavl region produced 332.1 thousand tons of milk (+3.2% compared to 2019), including agricultural enterprises - 301.9 thousand tons (+3.2 %), writes The DairyNews.

The milk yield per cow in the region amounted to 7534 kg (+8.1% compared to the level of 2019), and if compared with 2015, the productivity of cows increased by 35 %, including due to the work of agricultural enterprises to improve the quality of bred cattle – the purchase of highly productive pedigree heifers, improving the quality of their own herd by using semen of improving bulls.

Already in 2021 (by March 1), the milk yield per cow in the region amounted to 1175 kg (+15 kg compared to the same period in 2020).

‘Dairy farming is one of the priority areas of the agro-industrial complex of the region within the framework of the comprehensive socio-economic program "10 points of growth", developed by Governor Dmitry Mironov,’ said Deputy Chairman of the Government of the region Valery Kholodov. ‘To increase the volume of milk production in the region, 6 major investment projects worth 7.8 billion rubles are being implemented, and the launch of two of them, despite the pandemic, is planned for this year. The new projects will create more than 360 jobs.

The company Krasny Mayak is building a new livestock complex for 3,600 head of cattle, the volume of investment is more than 2.35 billion rubles (it will be launched in the 4th quarter of this year); LLC Agromir is upgrading a dairy farm for 1,160 head. The volume of investments is 500 million rubles. The project plans to build / reconstruct 4 calf sheds, 2 hay sheds, and 10 silage pits. An administrative and household complex will also be built. Today, two cowsheds and a milking and maternity yard with a milking parlor have been put into operation.

Voskhod company invested 1.9 billion rubles in the construction of a farm for 2,400 cows (this is 23 thousand tons of milk per year), and Agricultural production cooperative Revolutsiya will invest 250 million rubles in the modernization of the complex and increase milk production from 3 thousand to 5 thousand tons. Construction will begin this year.

Agroholding AgriVolga is implementing a project for the construction of two dairy complexes (farms) for a total herd of more than 2,400 cows. The volume of investments is 2 billion rubles.

The agricultural company Pakhma, which is implementing a major investment project for the construction of a dairy farm, is also going to increase milk production, the launch is scheduled for July this year. The number of cattle in the farm will increase from 1,100 to 5,600, of which 2,300 are milking cows, and milk production will double (from 9 to 18 thousand tons per year). 1.2 billion rubles were invested in the investment project.

Uglich Cheese-making and Dairy Plant, which is part of AgriVolga agricultural holding, is increasing its volumes after the implementation of the investment project for the modernization of the Uglich Cheese-making and Dairy Plant in December last year. Today, the company processes up to 30 tons of milk per day, of which about 15 tons is used for the production of milk and fermented dairy products, the remaining 15 – for the production of cheese, it is produced up to one and a half tons per day.

In 2021, the milk processing rate is growing and will reach 75 tons per day in the production of fermented dairy products (21.5 thousand tons per year of ESL milk and fermented dairy products) and up to 125 tons per day in the production of cheese with the production of 10-12 tons of product per day (4.3 thousand tons of product per year ("Dutch", "Uglich", "Poshekhonsky", "Russian" cheeses)).

In addition, the plant operates a workshop for processing whey: whey proteins are obtained from it, and later - lactose, from which fine-grained milk sugar is produced. It is purchased for the production of condensed milk by different companies. With additional investment, the plant will also be able to produce pharmacopoeial lactose, which is used as the main filler for most medicines.

‘Deep processing of whey at the Uglich plant will give a new impetus to the development of the enterprise – products with high added value will be produced, and natural protein will find its application in sports, baby food and cosmetology. Other cheese-producing enterprises will also be modernized in the region,’ said Valery Kholodov.

Today, our main goal is to let all enterprises – both dairy farms and large processors such as Uglich Cheese-making and Dairy Plant - process raw materials here, on the territory, so that milk remains with us, and so that in the future, products with high added value from our milk are produced in the region.

The Russian Union of Dairy Industry Enterprises (RSPMO), whose President, a scientist, academician, recognized specialist of the dairy industry Gavriil Borisovich Gavrilov, was elected on March 15, will also support this issue. Today, he heads the Yaroslavl Institute of Raw Materials and Food Quality. Gavriil Gavrilov noted that now his special attention, as president, will be paid to the issues of deep processing of whey with further production of products with high added value, including at the enterprises of Yaroslavl region.

By the way, Yaroslavl Region has already worked out a program for the development of an industrial innovative biotechnological (cheese) cluster in Yaroslavl region. The investment program of the cluster involves a significant modernization of the existing production facilities that are part of the cluster (among them – LLC AgriVolga, LLC Agrofirm Zemledelets, LLC Uglich Cheese-making and Dairy Plant, production and commercial company Ferment and others).

By the way, Yaroslavl region is the first region that has officially registered a cheese cluster.

Thus, not only the volume of milk production will grow in Yaroslavl region, but also the volume of dairy products and, in particular, cheeses. Over the past three years, the volume of production of this product has doubled and amounted to 8.8 thousand tons.

They will also work on the variety of products, continuing to preserve the traditions of “Uglich”, “Poshekhonsky”, and “Uleima” cheeses, which are already loved by all of Russia.

Today, the level of self-sufficiency in milk in Yaroslavl region is 108.2 %. The indicator has increased by 12 % since 2016.

The average retail price for pasteurized milk in the region today is 50.49 rubles per liter – one of the lowest among the regions of the Central Federal District. So, in Tver region, milk costs 57.54 rubles, in Ivanovo region – 57.69 rubles, in Vladimir region – 57.89 rubles, in Kostroma region – 58.22 rubles, in Kaluga region – 60.15 rubles.

With the launch of new livestock complexes, the level of self-sufficiency in milk from 108.2 will reach 118.2 %, which will eventually have a positive impact on the price of the product.
