National Dairy Mela and Agri Expo to Commence in Karnal on February 27
The ICAR-National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) in Karnal, India is set to host a three-day National Dairy Mela and Agri Expo from February 27 to March 1, 2025. This significant event aims to showcase the institute’s technological advancements and best practices to raise awareness amongst farmers and other stakeholders regarding emerging agricultural and dairy-related challenges.
According to Dheer Singh, the director and vice-chancellor of the institute, the event is designed to enhance community engagement and promote sustainable practices within the dairy industry.
This mega event will feature approximately 150 exhibition stalls hosted by ICAR institutes, state government departments, research and development organizations, private companies, startups, farmer producer organizations (FPOs), progressive farmers, and farm women. Attendees can expect to see breed-specific, high-pedigree dairy animal competitions, including milk yield contests and beauty contests, which will undoubtedly attract significant attention from onlookers.
Besides exhibitions, the mela will offer an agri expo, stakeholder meetings, and farmer-scientist dialogues. In special sessions led by leading experts, discussions will focus on pressing topics like advanced reproductive technologies, animal farm management, natural farming, crop residue management (CRM), and climate change.
The event is expected to draw over 100,000 farmers and stakeholders from across the country, marking it as a major platform for knowledge-sharing and innovation in the agriculture and dairy sectors. Notably, the event was not held the previous year due to prohibitory orders linked to farmers’ protests at the Haryana-Punjab borders.
