Milk Prices in Rio Grande do Sul Rise to R$ 2.5005 Per Liter

The price of milk in Rio Grande do Sul is expected to close July at R$ 2.5005 per liter, according to projections from the Parity Council of Milk Producers and Industries of the State (Conseleite/RS). This represents a 2.98% increase from June's projection of R$ 2.4281, adding R$ 0.0724 per liter for producers.

The increase follows a trend of rising prices seen in recent months. In May, the consolidated milk price in the state was R$ 2.4302, which then slightly increased to R$ 2.4320 in June. The current projection for July suggests a more significant jump.

Kaliton Prestes, the coordinator of Conseleite, notes that the first semester showed stable prices, with values for producers remaining firm. This trend aligns with those observed in other major milk-producing states in Brazil.

However, there are concerns about potential challenges affecting future supply. Heavy rainfall in Rio Grande do Sul could impact winter and summer pastures, affecting silage formation and food availability on farms, which are crucial components of milk production costs.

The Conseleite projections are formulated by the University of Passo Fundo (UPF) using data from participating industries. Monthly projections, such as the current R$ 2.5005 for July, are based on the first 20 days of the month, with final consolidated values confirmed after month-end.

The final figure for July will be confirmed in early August, potentially reflecting how recent weather conditions may have influenced the market.
