Milk prices in Mato Grosso recovered as collection hit a historic low

The average price paid for milk in Mato Grosso during the first six months of 2026 was R$2.03 per litre. That was 12.12% below the corresponding figure for 2025, when the first-half average had reached the highest level for that period since the series began in 2015.

The semester-wide result was weighed down by prices recorded in the opening three months. Monthly quotations then moved higher: milk was priced at R$2.16 per litre in May and R$2.27 in June, an increase of 4.96%. The July payment, covering milk collected in June, represented the fifth consecutive monthly rise.

At the same time, the volume of milk entering the state’s collection system weakened. The Mato Grosso Milk Collection Index, known as ICAP-L, averaged 45.66% in the first half, 5.68 percentage points below its result in the same period of 2025.

That was the lowest reading since the index’s historical series began. The measure indicated reduced availability of raw milk in the state during the semester, even as prices began to recover from the lower levels seen earlier in 2026.

The figures were reported as Mato Grosso approached its dry season. An analysis by Imea said the decline in rainfall would affect milk collection in the months ahead. It also said that a smaller supply of raw material could increase competition among dairy processors seeking to purchase milk.

For processors, securing supplies during the period of lower availability was identified as a factor in the state’s market dynamics. For farmers, the recent price movement followed a first half in which the average payment remained below the previous year’s level. The next period will be monitored through the changes in both milk collection and the price paid to producers.
