La Salamandra Resurfaces in Argentina's Dairy Market with New Ownership

La Salamandra, a prominent Argentine brand founded in 1991 and known for its premium dulce de leche, has returned to the dairy market under new management. Originally acquired by Cristóbal López in 2011 for approximately $7 million, the brand faced closure in 2014 due to profitability issues, rising costs, and inflation. The production facility was subsequently operated by a workers' cooperative.

In 2024, the plant was purchased by dairy producer Javier Semino, who, along with his daughters, established the family-run company Milagros del Sol. They invested around $150,000 to restore the equipment and facilities, allowing the resumption of production. Currently, the company employs about 30 people, producing 10,000 kg of dulce de leche and 3,000 kg of cheese daily. The production process maintains a strong artisanal component.

La Salamandra's new strategy includes not only focusing on the Argentine market but also pursuing international expansion. The company has begun the necessary procedures to export and has registered the brand in several markets, with initial targets including Brazil, the United States, Spain, and Mexico. They plan to increase production by 50% by adding a new work shift, with the goal of having exports account for roughly 40% of total production.

The revival of La Salamandra highlights the potential for niche products with added value, as premium brands continue to attract international demand. Dulce de leche remains one of Argentina's most promising export products.
