In five years, the cost of milk production in Yaroslavl region has increased by 43% - Valery Kholodov

The cost of milk production in 2021 increased by 43% compared to 2017, said Acting Deputy Chairman of the Government of Yaroslavl region Valery Kholodov.

According to him, the cost of production has risen due to rising prices, including for high-protein feed and mineral fertilizers. At the same time, the average comparable purchase prices for raw milk have increased by only 5.3% since 2017.

‘Of course, this is a serious financial blow to our agricultural producers. However, the Ministry of Agriculture of the country supported the appeal of the government of Yaroslavl region for additional support to agricultural enterprises of the dairy industry of cattle in terms of reimbursement for the purchase of high-protein feed,’ explained Mr. Kholodov, adding that in the near future Yaroslavl region will receive about 139 million rubles for compensation of feed costs.

The Kommersant-Yaroslavl reported that 95 agricultural enterprises engaged in milk production are located in the region. The enterprises keep about 95.2 thousand units of cattle, including 43.1 thousand milking cows. In the structure of the breed composition of dairy cattle bred in the region, 69.7% is cattle of the Yaroslavl breed. In 2020, agricultural enterprises of the region produced 301.9 thousand tons of milk, which is 3.2% more than in 2019.
