Global Dairy Trade Sees Shift Towards Higher Value Products
Rabobank has released its 2026 Dairy Map, indicating significant structural changes in the global dairy trade landscape. The report highlights that Europe's share in the international dairy market is decreasing. This shift is attributed to the growing influence of the United States, Argentina, and Uruguay, which are capitalizing on the increasing global demand for cheese and whey proteins.
The United States is enhancing its presence in the global market by ramping up cheese production, a sector that is witnessing heightened demand worldwide. Similarly, Argentina and Uruguay have been identified as emerging players, bolstering their export capacities to meet the rising demand for whey proteins.
Cheese and whey protein products are gaining traction as consumers worldwide seek higher protein content in their diets. This consumer trend is pushing countries like the U.S., Argentina, and Uruguay to expand their production capabilities and capture more market share.
Europe, traditionally a stronghold in the global dairy trade, is experiencing a decline in its export volume. This decline is partly due to increased competition from other regions and shifts in consumer preferences towards higher-value dairy products.
Rabobank's report suggests that these changes are part of a broader global trend towards high-value dairy products, driven by evolving consumer demands and dietary preferences.
