The EEC Sets Import Quotas for Meat and Whey in 2027

The Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission has established tariff quotas for the import of specific types of meat and dairy whey into the Eurasian Economic Union for the year 2027. This information was published in a press release from the EEC trade bloc.

Quotas for beef are set at 8,000 tons for Armenia, 21,000 tons for Kazakhstan, 5,000 tons for Kyrgyzstan, and 570,000 tons for Russia. The beef import quota for Belarus was not specified in the announcement.

Pork volumes are distributed among three countries. Armenia is allocated 14,000 tons, Belarus 20,000 tons, and Kyrgyzstan 2,000 tons. Quotas for pork for Kazakhstan and Russia are not provided in the published list.

The tariff quota for poultry meat and edible by-products will be 45,000 tons for Armenia, 10,900 tons for Belarus, 140,000 tons for Kazakhstan, 58,000 tons for Kyrgyzstan, and 364,000 tons for Russia. Thus, volumes for this category are determined for all five EAEU member states.

A separate quota is established for the import of dairy whey into Russia, amounting to 15,000 tons in 2027. The EEC announcement did not specify whey quotas for other union countries.

The EEC imposes such restrictions on specific categories of agricultural products originating from third countries. In determining volumes, the commission considers consumption and production balances in EAEU member states, as well as the countries' obligations to the World Trade Organization.

For Kazakhstan and Russia, the tariff quotas for 2027 correspond to the values recorded in the protocols of these states' accession to the WTO. For Armenia, Belarus, and Kyrgyzstan, volumes are determined based on the parties' requests and do not exceed the difference between domestic consumption and production.
