The Ministry of Agriculture and Processing Industry of Krasnodar region said that the decline in milk production in the region in 2021 is due to a reduction in the dairy herd, writes The DairyNews. The ministry noted that, in particular, in agricultural organizations, compared to last year, it decreased by 700 heads. The reasons for this are the activation of recovery of livestock from leukemia, as well as the culling of low-producing animals.

‘According to our forecasts, the situation will recover during the year, and the region will reach at least the level of last year: by the end of 2020, the volume of milk production in Krasnodar region exceeded 1.5 million tons. The growth in comparison with 2019 amounted to 85.7 thousand tons,’ the Ministry said.

The ministry noted that state support plays an important role for the development of livestock in the region.

‘This year, with the support of Governor Veniamin Kondratiev, the livestock industry will receive serious funding – about 1.9 billion rubles. The largest amount of funds from this amount will be used to support its own production of milk sold and / or shipped for its own processing – more than 1 billion rubles,’ said the regional Ministry of Agriculture.

They also noted that the support of livestock breeding is no less important. For this purpose, subsidies in the amount of 156.4 million rubles were provided in the region, as well as capex for the purchase of breeding young farm animals in breeding organizations – 210 million rubles.

In addition, this year, subsidies for the development of meat cattle breeding, except for pedigree animals – 114.4 million rubles; for the payment of insurance premiums in the field of animal husbandry – 5 million rubles are provided for the livestock breeders of the region.

The ministry confirmed that Krasnodar region will continue to operate and those areas of state support for the industry, which were introduced last year. These include the subsidy for the reimbursement of part of the cost of purchasing sexed semen of pedigree sires and / or pedigree embryos of cattle, including import – 14 million rubles. Subsidies in the amount of 40 million rubles will also be provided for capex when purchasing imported pedigree young cattle.

The Ministry of Agriculture of the region noted that it will continue to provide subsidies to reimburse part of the costs of keeping dairy and meat cows, which provided an increase in the number of cows. The amount of funding for this area will be 94.4 million rubles.

In addition, there will be traditional support for animal husbandry in small forms of management: within the framework of the grant program "Agrostartap" to support family livestock farms and grants, as well as subventions sent to the municipalities of the region, 330.6 million rubles will be allocated.

‘In order for milk production in the region not only to remain at the current level, but also to continue to grow, comprehensive measures are needed. In particular, we are talking about attracting private investment in the industry. New dairy farms should be built in the region and existing dairy farms should be modernized. It is worth noting that the livestock industry in Kuban is one of the most attractive for investment. Today, a number of projects in this area are being implemented in the region for a total amount of more than 11 billion rubles. For example, this year it is planned to put into operation the first stage of the dairy complex for 3 thousand cows in JSC Rodina of Kanevskaya district,’ reported in the Ministry of Agriculture and Processing Industry of Krasnodar region.

According to the representative of the department, the next important area, thanks to which the region is guaranteed to increase the volume of milk production, is provision of cattle breeding enterprises with highly productive livestock. The Ministry noted that at the moment, the existing shortage of cattle breeding farms in the region is covered by the purchase of young animals outside the region, including from foreign countries.

‘For example, livestock breeders of Kuban have to buy 2.5 thousand heifers and pregnant heifers annually, 60% of pedigree cattle are imported from other countries. In order to solve this issue, it is planned to create a breeding and genetic center for dairy cattle breeding in Krasnodar region in the coming years. There is no such center in Russia yet. It will be created within the framework of a public-private partnership,’ concluded in the Ministry of Agriculture and Processing Industry of Krasnodar region.

We remind that, according to Rosstat, since the beginning of the year, the negative dynamics of milk production in agricultural enterprises were observed in traditionally dairy regions – Leningrad region and Krasnodar region.

At the same time, the Committee for the Agro-industrial and Fisheries Complex of Leningrad region reported that the decline in milk production in the region in 2020 was affected by the effect of a leap year.
