Combining dairy and plant components, dessert flavors, and unconventional ingredients is becoming a notable trend in the global dairy industry. This was reported by Maria Bychkova and Margarita Cherdantseva at the Cheese Open in Aktau, Kazakhstan.
Dairy Companies Innovate with Hybrid Products and Unique Combinations

In their presentation, experts highlighted products recognized at the World Dairy Innovation Awards 2026. Among them are hybrid drinks based on cow's milk and plant components, dairy products for specific consumption scenarios, as well as cheeses with fruit, vegetable, and meat additions.

One example is the PlanetDairy Hybrid Milk range, where cow's milk is combined with plant bases. This format is aimed at consumers who wish to reduce their intake of animal products but are not ready to completely switch to plant-based drinks due to taste differences.

Another example is the lactose-free Feihe Angus Beef Cheese with added beef. The product is positioned as a protein snack that combines two familiar categories.

The innovations also include Mengniu Deluxe Good Night ice cream with lychee flavor and functional components. The manufacturer associates the product with evening consumption and relaxation before sleep.

A separate category comprises products where modern technologies are combined with local identity. The presentation mentioned Yili Gonglao’s Hulunbuir yogurt, made using strains of microorganisms associated with the Hulunbuir region. The product is notable for its dense creamy surface and is positioned as an interpretation of traditional recipes.

According to the experts, such developments allow manufacturers to go beyond standard categories and create new consumption scenarios for dairy products. However, the unusual composition should be accompanied by a clear explanation of the product's benefits and purpose.
