Dairy Index DIA increased by 0.07% to 28.89 rubles (about 0.32 euros)/kg

On January 11, 2020 Dairy Index DIA amounted to 28.89 rubles (about 0.32 euros)/kg (excluding VAT, fat and protein content 3.6% and 3.0% respectively), which is 0.07% higher than at the end of December 2020 and 10% higher than at the beginning of January 2020. According to the Index DIA app, the key factor in the growth of the indicator was the continued increase in prices for raw milk in the Russian regions. The import price also continued to grow due to the increase in prices for exchange-traded dairy products.

According to the application Index DIA, the weighted average price of milk in Russia last week increased by 0.08% to 26.27 rubles (about 0.29 euros)/kg, which is 3.9% higher than the price in early January in 2020. Prices for raw milk increased in Ivanovo, Yaroslav and Moscow regions. The decline in prices for raw milk was observed in Voronezh and Krasnoyarsk regions.  

It is worth reminding that to get access to information about the prices for raw milk in all regions of Russia, users need to be registered on the page of the application Index DIA and enter current data on the price of raw milk on a weekly basis:


The import price index increased by 0.09% to 35.1 rubles (about 0.39 euros)/kg, compared to the level of early January 2020 the index is higher by 9.5%. At the auction of Trigona Dairy Trade the prices of butter, skimmed milk powder and whey increased while the price of cheese remained at the level of the previous auction. The price of butter, taking into account the strengthening of the ruble compared to the previous auctions, increased by 0.89% to 304.2 rubles (about 3.35 euros)/kg, the price of cheddar decreased by 0.6% to 290.5 rubles (about 3.20 euros)/kg, the price of skimmed milk powder increased by 0.75%  to 202.5 rubles (about 2.23 euros)/kg. The price of whey powder increased by 3.7% to 75.8 rubles (about 0.83 euros)/kg.   

At the auction of the Global Dairy Trade (GDT) on January 5, 2021, the price index for dairy products increased by 3.9%, the prices for all dairy products offered at the auction showed an increase.

The import price of a pair of skimmed milk powder + butter increased by 0.16% to 36.88 rubles (about 0.41 euros)/kg (1 kg in terms of milk). The import price of a pair of cheese + whey remained at the level of 33.77 rubles (about 0.37 euros)/kg. The price of whole milk powder remained at the level of 27.48 rubles (about 0.30 euros)/kg.

Dairy Index DIA
Dairy Index DIA is calculated based on two key indicators, the weighted average price of milk in the Russian regions and the Index of import price. To calculate the weighted average price, the Center developed and launched a crowdsourcing application Index DIA, which allows accumulating current data on the prices of raw milk in the Russian regions from direct market participants, producers and processors of milk. The Index of import price is determined based on the prices of key exchange dairy products – skim milk powder, whole milk powder, butter, cheese and whey powder. The prices of imported dairy products are based on the prices of dairy products of the Belarusian universal commodity exchange (BUCE) and the prices at the sites of Trigona Dairy Trade and GlobalDairyTrade.
