New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon is leading efforts to include dairy in a prospective free-trade agreement with India, despite past setbacks. India has historically resisted opening its markets to foreign dairy products to protect its domestic industry.

Luxon acknowledges these concerns but remains determined to negotiate a deal that benefits both nations.

"There's very good chemistry between our respective trade ministers and prime ministers," Luxon stated after meetings in New Delhi with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Negotiations are expected to be 'pretty brutal' but Luxon affirms New Zealand's commitment to the process, aiming to secure the agreement within his first term ending in late 2026.
